Shadows in the snow. Ouray Colorado

A year ago this week we went up to Ouray Colorado to enjoy the beauty of this amazing place. This is one of the many images I came back with. I loved the contrast of the shadows the mounds of snow created.

Barb wire has played an important part of Colorado ranching and farming. Having grown up in a rural community the site of barbed wire has been a common one.

I always love the stark contrast of leafless trees silhouetted against a vivid skyline in the winter. This ridge I have had the pleasure of viewing for many years as it can be seen from what used to be my grandparents place (my parents live there now). I feel this is one of the better images I have taken of that line of trees.

I liked all of the blue tones in this image that I captured last evening. Even though yesterday was a pretty nice day (considering where the temps have been) yesterday evenings breeze was very bitter. Had to put on the gloves and cover the nose and ears. Even at that I didn’t last very long in the winter temps.

Cold beauty

Even though it has been bitter cold here this winter I still find beauty in getting out and capturing the little hidden gems that nature offers. I took a ten minute walk around yesterday evening around an area I see everyday. Many times when we see something everyday we begin to think it offers nothing special to us. If we can look at it with new eyes though we are often rewarded. In this shot I love the lighting of the icicle and of course I am always a sucker for good sun flair, what really tops this shot off for me though is that I was able to capture the bird in flight in the top corner. One of those things I couldn’t have planned it better if I would have tried

This image was taken a year ago in January of 2009. It is on my parents farm in western Colorado. I love the way the the sunset is reflecting in the snow. The old barn gives the photo a timeless look.

Snowy contrasts

I loved the contrast of the areas with the snow and the areas without on the adobe hillsides. The coloring of the sky of course couldn’t be ignored against the stark contrast. These hills are in between Hotchkiss and Delta Colorado.
